RESIDENCIES
Curiosity as Currency – Both in terms of value and exchange
I work across arts and non-arts contexts, with different ages and with participants to create work that hinges on the arousal of curiosity – manifesting in some form of poetry, theatre-making, performance, live art or story-telling.
Sometimes this work is called an arts-led residency, or community, or participant-led or socially-engaged. Clients, groups and partners I’ve worked with:
- Glasgow Life – Artist in Residence, Ward 18
- Scottish Book Trust – poet and playwright-in-residence through the Live Literature program
- Wigtown Book Festival – writer-in-residence
- HMP Shotts / Polmont/ Cottonvale/ Dumfries: performance poetry
- Toonspeak Young Peoples Theatre – Artistic Director – Lost & Found, Seven Signs, Word of Mouth
- Visible Fictions Theatre Company – playwright-in-residence, Mish Gorecki Goes Missing
- Arts in the City – artist-in-residence (foster care / young folk)
- Outside Art – street art project (The Tramway / Glasgow Life)
- Making a Map of My Mistakes – artist-in-residence, New Victoria Hospital Glasgow
- Hidden Spaces – artist-in-residence, Pollockshields, Glasgow
- Cafe Poet- Ampersand Cafe, Australian Poetry
- Cultural Programme, Commonwealth Games
- Merchant City Festival Glasgow
- Falkirk Council, opening of The Kelpies
- Inverclyde Council
- The Tramway, Glasgow
I absolutely love using provocations and hosting a call-and-response methodology that enables discovery through improvisation…but I do have a strong director’s vision and will easily lead if the idea does. I love writing for groups and devising with an ensemble. I feel strongly that we could connect more through non-arts contexts using our imagination as a conduit. I am passionate about working within challenging contexts to nurture the imaginative impulse, and on building work that resonates widely but can afford to be experimental. I work from a point of mutual respect and am a big fan of ambiguity, of dual meanings and creative exploration.
